Obituary

A funeral service for Vivian Joan Franks, 83, of Chickasha, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.

Vivian Joan (Harris) Franks was born March 2, 1942, in Cement, Oklahoma, to Robert Lindsey Harris and Ella (Hargus) Harris. She passed from this life on February 18, 2026, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, surrounded by her family.

Joan grew up in the Cement area and graduated from Cement High School.

On September 11, 1957, she married George Ray Franks, and they shared 48 years together.

Joan was born the sixth out of ten children and from that time on “No one ever told me what I was going to do.” Joan’s relentless love of her family led to a household that ebbed and flowed between family, friends, and never a stranger. Throughout her life she lived on her terms, on her time, and right or wrong in defense of those she loved. There wasn’t a donut shop, citywide garage sale, or Dillard’s sale that she didn’t frequent - or lead an adventure to discover.

Her favorite pastime was by far loading up with her family for a road trip – whether simply around town to check out the local scenery or across the country. Even to the end there wasn’t a person with a quicker whit or sharper tongue. There wasn’t a single person that knew Joan that didn’t know the feeling of love.

She was preceded in death by both parents, husband George, and infant son Jimmy Franks, son-in-law Keith Moon, and siblings Leota Stokes, Alta Montgomery, Delmar Harris, Johnny Harris, Anita Sluss, Lynn Harris, and Patricia Harris.

Loved ones left to cherish her memory are her son Stephen Franks of Chickasha; daughter Cynthia Moon of Chickasha; granddaughter Stevie Franks and Chad Miller of Pocasset; grandson Josh and Krista Franks of Owasso; granddaughter Brandi Null of Chickasha; sisters Betty Biggs and Jean Love, both of Chickasha; great-grandchildren Brynlea, Cason and Kaylee Miller, Caroline and Griffin Franks, and Jacob Lewis; special nieces and nephew, Jeff and Jaymie Pinkley, Lindsey Love, Chandler Haile, Camryn Pinkley and Jackson Harmon; and other extended family and friends.

Viewing for Joan will be held at Ferguson Funeral Home on Friday, February 20th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Interment will be held in Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
