A graveside funeral service for Roy Eugene Miller, 87, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Fairlawn Cemetery with Daniel Edwards officiating.
Roy Eugene Miller was born May 1, 1938, in Rocky Ford, Oklahoma, at home, to Roy Thurman Miller and Velma Hazel (Long) Miller. He passed from this life on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at his home in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Roy grew up in Rocky Ford and the Cement area. He met Doris Jean Baty in Cement in the 7th grade and on September 10, 1956, they were married and settled in Chickasha. They shared almost 67 years together until her passing in June 2023.
When the kids were growing up, they kept horses and he liked when they rode and took care of the horses as a family. They enjoyed the rodeo; he and his son roped, and his daughters barrel raced.
He worked in the oilfield until the kids came along, then he went to barber school and cut hair in the community for around 14 years. He went back into the oilfield and worked until he retired in his 50’s. Then he went to welding school and welded for a time, even teaching at the Vo-tech in Chickasha. They owned a few acres and Roy enjoyed taking care of their garden, the home and their farm animals. He also worked as the custodian at his church, Ninnekah First Baptist, for over 10 years. He loved his church and church family.
Roy, known to most of his family as Poppy Gene, loved spending time with his family. Thanksgiving and Christmas were his favorite, and he enjoyed telling everyone how many came to their home for the holidays.
He was preceded in death by his wife Doris Miller, parents Roy and Hazel Miller, in-laws Melvin and Ruby Baty, sisters Betty Miller and Wanda Miller, brother Donnie Miller, son-in-law Ronnie Morris, sister-in-law Lavada Robb, and granddaughter Sammie Bunnell.
Loved ones left to cherish his memory are his daughters Terrie Koegler and husband Paul of Chickasha and Dianna Morris of Chickasha; son Roy Don Miller and wife Patty of Ratliff City; two bonus sons Sam Soto and Jack Martin; grandchildren Chris, Niki, Coy, Janeta, Steven, Justin, Amber and April; eighteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; and other extended family and friends.
Viewing for Roy will be Monday, February 23rd at Ferguson Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Interment will be held in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
