Funeral services for Roger Owen Brown, Jr., 90, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.
Roger Owen Brown, Jr. was born on April 26, 1926 in Sherman, Texas, the son of Roger Owen Brown, Sr. and Grace Janette (Riddle) Brown. He died February 7, 2017in Bethany, Oklahoma.
Roger was raised in Sherman, Texas and after finishing high school he attended college for a semester before he was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. He served in the 38 th Infantry in Patton’s Army from October 1944 to March of 1946.
After his discharge from the Army, he continued his education and received his Master’s Degree in Education from North Texas State University. He started his teaching career at Northeast High School in Oklahoma City in the early 1950’s. When he first began teaching, he helped many underprivileged students get started attending college.
He met Maggie LuElla Cole and they were married on September 3, 1962. They moved to Highland Village, Texas where he taught for a time.
He was a teacher, coach and school superintendent over his teaching career. In the 1980’s, he and LuElla moved to Chickasha, where he taught Alternate Education. After retiring from teaching, Roger was a home builder and remodeled homes in the area.
Roger was a 32 nd Degree Mason. He loved gardening and fishing. His family remembers many enjoyable vacations with him to Eureka Springs, Arkansas and Missouri.
He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife, LuElla; daughter, Larue Freeman; brothers, Bob Brown, Hugh Max Brown and Joe M. Brown; a young sister, Laura Nell Brown; and friend, Michael Brumley.
Survivors include nieces, Louann Barfknecht and husband, John, of Ponder, Texas, Barbara Quinlan of Ada, Kathy Williams of Ada, Kelly Anderson of Denton, Texas; grandsons, Chris Freeman and Keith Freeman of Blanchard; great-granddaughters, Jamie Milsap and husband, Cornell, of Bethany, Ryan Davis, Kristie Ferrell and Lindsey Story; great-grandson, Tanner Freeman; special friend, Betty Broadus of Oklahoma City; nine great-great grandchildren; numerous other nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
Interment will be in Blanchard Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
