A memorial service for Norma Joy Melencamp, 92, of Chickasha, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.

Norma Joy (Rogers) Melencamp was born May 9, 1934, in Binger, Oklahoma to Ernest Rogers and Gladys (Jones) Rogers. She passed from this life on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

On November 10, 1953, Norma married John Melencamp in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma. They were married 62 years until his passing in 2016.

Norma and John lived the majority of their marriage in Anadarko and then retired to Chickasha around 1997.

She enjoyed playing bingo and gambling. In her younger years she liked to travel. She was an excellent cook and she loved to feed groups of people. Norma loved her family and could be stubborn and opinionated with love.

She was preceded in death by both parents, husband John Melencamp, sons Garry Melencamp and Larry Melencamp, daughter-in-law Fran Melencamp; sisters June Jackson and Wilma Holsey.

Loved ones left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Danita and Mike Palesano of Chickasha; son, Jeff Melencamp of Cleburne, Texas; eight grandchildren Eric Melencamp, Danita Melencamp, Jacob Melencamp, Michael Palesano and wife, Tracy, Daniel Palesano and wife Tara, Matt Palesano and wife, Whitney, Nicci Palesano and numerous great-grandchildren; sisters Roberta Eskew, Donna Johnson, and Diane Tallent; super brother Johnny Rogers; and other extended family and friends.

Interment will be in Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma.

The service and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
