A funeral service for Mona Cloud, 74, of Chickasha, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025, in the Shepherd Street Christian Church with Pastors Milton Bowens and Jerome Burrus officiating.
Mona Cloud was born April 22, 1951, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, to Robert and Mary Jones. She passed peacefully on December 5, 2025, in Chickasha. She attended Lincoln School and later Chickasha High School. From a young age, Mona developed a deep love for modern and jazz dance. She began lessons during her childhood and eventually joined a dance company as a young adult, later sharing her gift by teaching dance classes herself.
Mona spent many years working at Maremont before moving to Southwest Youth and Family Services, where she dedicated more than 20 years to serving children and families. In 2005, she was honored with the Carmel Bland Youth Worker of the Year Award, an acknowledgment of her compassion, devotion, and unwavering service as a blessing to children and families. And later she transitioned to blessing seniors as the Activity Director at Glenhaven Assisted Living. She uplifted residents through prayer, Bible study, games, and her unforgettable rendition of “Happy Birthday,” always bringing joy and laughter to those around her. In 2012, she was recognized as Glenhaven’s Employee of the Year.
On March 6, 2011, Mona was ordained as an associate minister. She was a lifelong and faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Mona served in many roles over the years, including a minister, choir director, youth drill team leader, and more. Her service extended far beyond her home church. She served as President of the W.I.A. (Women In Action) of the General Baptist State Convention, Northeastern District, from 1994 to 1998. Throughout her life, she traveled side by side with her mother, Mary Jones, to district and state meetings, where one was seen, the other was always close by. She was also a caretaker for her mother, Mary Jones.
Mona also founded the New Hope District Women’s Retreats, which brought women together from across the state for spiritually uplifting and life-changing weekends. She was truly a warrior for Christ. Her love for music was beautifully woven throughout her life. Mona celebrated 20 years with the Chickasha Community Gospel Singers in 2016 and continued sharing her voice for years beyond. If you were lucky enough to be close to Mona, then you know every kid automatically earned the nickname “Pookie.” (No application process required.) Mona was famous for her quick wit and her wonderfully bossy personality. Let’s be honest, if Mona “asked” you to do something, she wasn’t actually asking… she was just letting you know what you’d be doing next.
Mona was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Herman Jones and Mary Pearl Jones, and her siblings Patricia Pickens, Ludie Martin, and Linda Jones.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughters, LaRonda McCarther of Chickasha, Oklahoma (and husband Shawn McCarther Sr.), and Stormi Cloud of Dallas, Texas; her grandsons, Shawn “Derrick” McCarther Jr. (and wife Lama McCarther) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Jalen McCarther of Chickasha, Oklahoma; siblings Emeree Martin of Chicago, Illinois (and wife Willie Mae Martin), Toni Williams of Vancouver, Washington, Deborah Godwin of Ardmore, Oklahoma (and husband Ronnie Godwin), and Gilbert Jones of Chickasha, Oklahoma; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who loved her deeply.
May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
