Obituary

A funeral service for Kenneth Dean Powell, 75, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Vital Church with Pastor Kevin Quinones officiating.

Kenneth Dean Powell was born March 7, 1951 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Henry Powell and Lila Mae (Moore) Powell. He passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Kenny spent his younger years moving to different towns as his father followed oil field opportunities, but Chickasha was his home. He graduated from Chickasha High School in 1969.

He met Sherron Erwin in 1973 at a football game and on August 19, 1974, they married and shared the next 52 wonderful years together, raising a family and enjoying retirement.

Kenny spent most of his life serving as a firefighter with the Chickasha Fire Department until his medical retirement in 1999. Throughout his years of service, he formed a strong and lasting bond with his fellow firefighters, a brotherhood that has remained an important part of his life and his family’s lives ever since, creating friendships and memories that will never be forgotten, they were family.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He adored them and they adored him. He would often take them fishing and riding on the golf cart. He spent many hours watching them play sports while he ate sunflower seeds and drank Dr Pepper. You could always find a pack of Big-League Chew in his pocket which he would share with his grands before their games.

Kenny was an avid OU football fan and while watching each game, he would stand in front of the television, cheering on his team rather loudly! He spent his life helping people. He was the one who could fix anything and always had the exact tool to accomplish the job.

He also had more “family” at Vital Church, where he attended for many years. He will be greatly missed. He loved big and had a rescuer’s heart. We know he is with Jesus and that makes it easier to say “this is not goodbye, it is, see you later.”

Kenny was preceded in death by both parents and brother Phillip Powell.

Loved ones left to cherish his memory are his wife Sherron Powell of the home; son Josh Powell with partners Terry Allen and Jimmy Myers; son Jarred Powell; daughter Jillian Nieto and husband Bearren; grandchildren Knox , Evie, Bryn, and Bearett; brother Bob Powell; sister Sandy Palmer; and many “adopted” kiddos he helped through the years.

There will be no public viewing at the funeral home.

The interment will be held in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
