Memorial services for Kenneth L. “Grouch” Howell, 82, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Mother Lin Stern officiating.

Kenneth Lee Howell, known to most as “Grouch”, was born February 11, 1937 in Watson, Missouri the son of Elmer Lee Howell and Esther (Ford) Howell. He passed away Saturday, April 6, 2019 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Kenneth grew up in Nebraska City, Nebraska and in high school earned the nickname “Grouch” and it followed him throughout his life. He then attended Pratt Junior College in Pratt, Kansas where he met Carol Ann Howerton. They were married on April 4, 1958 in Pratt and had 57 years together until Carol’s passing in 2015.

Grouch worked in sales all of his life for various oilfield and car companies. In1968, they moved to Woodward for his work and in 1977, his job transferred them and they moved to Chickasha. He later retired from Chandler Chrysler Jeep Dodge.

He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church for many years He liked to hunt, fish, and golf but spent most of his time working hard for his family. He spent his last few years at Brookdale Oklahoma City Southwest Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Facility.

He was preceded in death by both parents, his wife, Carol, a grandson, Callen Lee Howell, and a brother, Elmer “Sonny” Howell.

Survivors include daughter, Connie Coker of Oklahoma City; son and daughter-in-law, Kip and Charleen Howell of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Derek Brooks, Brandon Brooks, Ashley Keene and her husband, Michael, Duncan Howell, Parker Howell, and Cory Simpleman; great-granddaughter, Ryan Avery Cheatwood; brother, Ron Howell and sister, Glory Chaney both of Nebraska; and other extended family and friends.

Services and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
