A funeral service for Dr. Joe Thomas Bledsoe, 91, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Wendelyn Perceful officiating.
Dr. Joe Thomas Bledsoe was born July 29, 1934 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Joe Marvin Bledsoe and Jewel (Lawson) Bledsoe. He passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025. Joe was raised in Tuttle, Oklahoma.
Upon high school graduation, he attended Oklahoma A & M (OSU) for three years before acceptance into University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. Joe graduated in 1959 and served one year of internship at University Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was then sent as a US Army Captain to Thule, Greenland and then stationed at Ft. Sill, in Lawton, Oklahoma for two years. Joe completed 3 years of Internal Medicine residency and one year of Cardiology fellowship before moving to Chickasha to practice medicine for 50 years.
Joe enjoyed visiting with friends and family. He was a trout fisherman who loved watching OU football and the OKC Thunder. He was a lifelong Methodist and a member of Providence Methodist Church in Chickasha.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Jewell Bledsoe of Tuttle.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Alta Jean “Jeanie” Bledsoe, his sister Jeannette Hale, daughters Suzanne Lumpkin (Harve) and Patti Fennema (Mark), six grandchildren: Monte Clay Ramsey (Rochelle), Marci Bailey (Michael), Colten Lumpkin, Matt Fennema, Nick Fennema, and Maria Payola, and seven great-grandchildren: Ryder, Hayden, Kelby, Emma, Lane, Dylan and Jackson. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Sadie.
Our heartfelt gratitude is given to Pastor Wendee Perceful, the wonderful staff of Grady Memorial Hospital, Five Oaks Medical Center, Glenhaven Retirement Village and Nursing Home, and Lifeline Home Health Care and Hospice. We are also sincerely thankful for Joe’s wonderful neighbors and friends.
A viewing for Dr. Bledsoe will be held on Thursday, September 18th from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
The interment will be in Fairview Cemetery located in Tuttle, Oklahoma under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
