Juanita Joan Thompson was born October 19, 1932, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, to Oscar C. Christian and Sinna Pearl (George) Christian. She passed from this life on February 24, 2026, at her home in Cement, Oklahoma, surrounded by her family.
Joan grew up in Converse, Louisianna, until she was 13, then moved to Cement and attended Cement school.
On July 4, 1950, she married Buren Thompson in Seminole, Oklahoma and they shared seventy-three years of marriage until his passing in November 2023.
Joan was an avid crafter. She loved to go to Quartzsite, Arizona and La Veta, Colorado. She was an expert at running a scroll saw. She and Buren loved to travel in their RV, driving across the United States from Alaska to Florida. Joan loved to play Rook and was very competitive. She was passionate about her shoes and would buy a new pair every time she went shopping. She was very strong-willed, outgoing, friendly and a very hardworking farmer’s wife. She lived in the same house for 72 years and would spend many hours, daily, working in her yard.
Joan was the very first employee for Hermetic Switch and worked there over 20 years and became the production supervisor. Joan was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Cement for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son Russell Wayne Thompson; sisters Eva Virginia Greenwood, Delores Sales and Eleanor Koehler; brother Donald Christian; and son-in-law Tim Love.
