Obituary

A viewing for Janice Joe Terrell, 69, of Chickasha, will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the Ferguson Funeral Home. A private memorial service for Janice Joe Terrell, 69, of Chickasha, will be held at a later date by the family.

Janice Joe (Van Winkle) Terrell was born March 4, 1957, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Teddy Curtis VanWinkle and Gene (Lawson) VanWinkle. She passed from this life unexpectedly on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at her home in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Janice grew up in Sterling, Oklahoma and graduated from Sterling High School.

On June 21, 1976, she married the love of her life Coy Elvin Terrell in Lawton, Oklahoma. They shared 27 years of life together until his passing in August 2003.

Janice was a homemaker for many years, while Coy worked hard at the school as a janitor and bus driver and working weekends on a dairy farm so they could save up money for their own dairy farm. After a few years they started their family, having two sons, Shaun and Shane, and she stayed home caring for them. Saving for several years they were eventually able to buy their own dairy farm and they owned and operated it as a family for 7 or 8 years. When Coy’s health became too bad to continue, they sold the farm.

After Coy’s death, Janice began working at Grace Living Center, now Cottonwood Creek, and worked as a CNA and CMA for many years until her passing. She was outgoing and enjoyed her work friends.

Janice loved to read and in her younger years, she enjoyed crafting, crocheting, and sewing. She lived for her grandchildren and looked out for others above her own needs.

She was preceded in death by both parents, husband Coy, a sister Judy Van Winkle and a brother John Van Winkle.

Loved ones left to cherish her memory are her sons Shaun Terrell of Lawton and Shane Terrell and wife Cherry of Chickasha; grandchildren Nathan, Joshua, Trevor, Zackary, Blake, Jacob, and Hailey; great granddaughter Milani; sister Jerry; brother James; and other extended family and friends.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
