A memorial service for Dr. J.O. Wood, Jr., of Mead, 93, formerly of Chickasha, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Epworth United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Taylor officiating.

James O. Wood, Jr. was born May 10, 1932, in Chickasha, Oklahoma to James O. Wood, Sr. and Thelma (Ball) Wood. He passed from this life on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at his home in Mead, Oklahoma.

J. O. graduated from Chickasha High School and attended OU and then went on to medical school in Tennessee, where he met his wife, Dawn Roark. They were married on May 14, 1955, and shared 64 years together until her passing in 2019.

In 1964 they moved to Chickasha, where Dr. Wood began a General Medical Practice. He served the community for many years before moving to Waurika Lake in 2015 and later to the Texoma area. They enjoyed fishing, running horses and traveling.

J. O. was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dawn Wood, and sister Jean Wood Anderson.

Loved ones left to cherish his memory are his son James O. Wood III of New Orleans, Louisiana; daughter Melinda Wood of Decatur, Texas; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and other extended family and friends.

The cremation arrangements, service, and burial of cremains at Rose Hill Cemetery are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home, Chickasha, Oklahoma.
