James “Jimmy” David Johnson

d. January 28, 2020

Funeral services for James “Jimmy” David Johnson, 75, of Chickasha, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at First Assembly of God Church in Chickasha, Oklahoma with Pastors Paul Knight and Chad Allred officiating.

James David Johnson was born in Chickasha, OK to Joey and Lillie Johnson on June 17, 1944. He left this life on January 28, 2020 at his home in Chickasha. James attended Friend, Chickasha, and Alex Schools. He was very active in FFA and football, won state in pole vaulting, and was especially good at basketball. He held the scoring record for basketball in high school and even earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Central Oklahoma. After high school, he attended both UCO and Cameron University.

He worked for Coca-Cola and managed Modern Appliance & Furniture in Chickasha for many years. He then worked at Jackson Trailer for a number of years and went on to manage U-Store All in Chickasha for several years before retiring and working part time at Chickasha First Assembly of God as a maintenance man.

James married the love of his life, Donna (Rogers) in 1977. He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at a young age and was very active at Parkview Christian Church for many years, where he served on the board as a deacon, a youth sponsor, and a Sunday School teacher. He later joined Chickasha First Assembly of God, where he also served as a deacon and was involved in Royal Rangers, youth ministry, men’s ministry, door greeting, and loving on people. He and Donna unofficially adopted several international students through the college ministry at Chickasha First Assembly of God. He had a heart full of love for his family and church family, as well, but most of all for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a hard-working, fun-loving, larger than life guy. He was loyal, dedicated, and consistent. If a child or grandchild had an event, there was no way he was going to miss it if he could help it. He loved playing basketball and even up until a few months ago could still outplay some of the younger guys. He put his heart and soul into anything he did.

James is survived by his wife, Donna Johnson of the home; daughter and son-in-law Vanda and Doug Holland; daughter Teresa Fust; daughter and son-in-law Paige and Greg Elliott; son and daughter-in-law David and Sarah Johnson; and grandchildren Carson Holland, Hayden Holland, Ian Elliott, Abigail Elliott, Kade David Johnson, and Jett James Johnson. Siblings Phyllis & Guy Cornelius, Joann & Bruce Gossman, and Jan & Bob Haskin.

James is preceded in death by his father and mother Joey and Lillie Johnson; sister Willena Brown; brother Joey Johnson Jr.; brother Richard Johnson; and infant son Jonathan David Johnson.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Assembly of God Church, 3340 S. 16th, Chickasha, OK 73018.
