A Celebration of Life for Gary Wayne Shoemake, 70, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.
Gary was born in Chickasha on October 29, 1954, to Robert “Bobby” Shoemake and Leona Faye (Armstrong) Shoemake. He passed from this life on Friday, May 2, 2025, at home surrounded by the love of his family.
He was a proud graduate of Ninnekah High School, Class of 1972, where he was known not only for his strong character but also as an outstanding athlete, especially on the basketball court. His love for sports, competition, and camaraderie stayed with him throughout his life.
After high school, Gary built a life grounded in faith, family, and hard work. He was a lifelong land and cattle farmer with a vast knowledge of agriculture. He was dedicated to the land and the values it represented. For Gary, farming was more than a job, it was a way of life that reflected his strength, resilience, and love for his community.
Gary shared 48 loving years with his wife, Sharon Louise Shoemake. Together, they raised three children and created a legacy of family, laughter, and love. He cherished time spent on the lake with a cold beer in hand, telling stories, and watching his family grow. “Pops” was a devoted husband, proud father, beloved grandfather and great-grandfather, who poured his heart into every role he held.
He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, especially going to the lake. He was an avid water skier, and he enjoyed and explored scuba diving. Gary had a big heart for all animals. He will always be remembered for his abundant generosity, kind-heartedness, and being a man of few words that could make you laugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Leona Shoemake; and grandparents Estel and Grace Shoemake and Hudie and Tempha Armstrong.
The loved ones left to remember Gary are his wife Sharon of the home; son Kyle Shoemake and devoted friend Amanda Robnett; daughter Scout E. Hebinck and husband Jonathan Ordanez along with grandson Remi Ordanez; son Preston Shoemake and wife Krissa with great-grandchildren Paxton and Gary Kolter; granddaughter Taylor Dungan and spouse Calven Hill; granddaughter Kylee Sullivan and husband Derek; and grandchildren Ella Dungan, Lexi Jo Shoemake, Harli Shoemake, Knox Shoemake and Sadie Faye Shoemake; and other extended family and friends.
Though his hands are now at rest, Gary’s spirit lives on in every field he worked, every laugh shared around the table and every life touched by his unwavering love and strength.
The celebration and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
