A private memorial service for Edward Joseph Laehn, 62, of Arizona, will be held by the family on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
Edward Joseph Laehn, affectionately known as “Captain Ron,” passed away surrounded by family and love on Friday April 18, 2025 in Glendale, Arizona. He was born September 5, 1962, to Clifford Otto Laehn and Evelyn Gertrude (Abts) Laehn in Hartford, Wisconsin, and was raised in Arizona.
Ed grew up with a passion for adventure and an unmistakable spark for life. He attended Maryvale High School, where he discovered his love of the outdoors through the backpacking club and outdoorsman class.
From a young age, Ed thrived outside. Whether it was riding dirt bikes through the desert, skeet shooting, casting a line into the water, playing little league baseball, swimming on a team, or spending weekends at the lake, he was always chasing the next thrill. He had a playful spirit—especially when it came to teasing his little sister, a pastime he never quite outgrew. Together, they also made a great team of young entrepreneurs, always scheming up creative ways to make their next dollar.
On May 5, 1984, he married Rosslyn Archer in Phoenix, Arizona and to this union his beloved son Joseph was born. As a father, Ed shared the joys of his favorite hobbies with Joe. Their bond was built on early morning fishing trips, long days at the lake, and the kind of laughter that comes from deep, unwavering love. The same adventures that shaped him as a boy became the moments that defined him as a dad. Joe learned many of his skills as a tradesman from his father.
Ed will be remembered for his adventurous soul, his sense of humor, and the way he lived life on his own terms. He leaves behind brothers, sisters, family and friends who will miss him dearly, but carry his memory with smiles, stories, and love. Among them are an abundance of nieces and nephews who will fondly remember time spent outdoors with Uncle Ed—and the not-so-funny jokes that always seemed much funnier to him.
He was preceded in death by both his parents and a sister June Laehn.
Loved ones left to remember him are his son Joseph and Traca of Chickasha; sisters Barbara Duval of Wisconsin, Sandra Friess and husband Harvey of Wisconsin, Jean Laehn of Oklahoma, Ann Thelen and husband Tom of Texas, and Betty Jo Jones and husband Gary of Oklahoma; brother Robert Laehn and wife Lisa of Virginia; many nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
The cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
