A funeral service for Don Downing Bird, 90, of Blanchard, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.

Don Downing Bird was born February 26, 1935, in Ninnekah, Oklahoma, the son of Joe Bird and Blanche Viola (Downing) Bird. He passed from this life on Sunday, December 14, 2025, in Norman, Oklahoma.

Don grew up in Ninnekah and graduated from Ninnekah High School, then he attended OSU. He joined the United States Army, serving 2 years.

On March 17, 1958, he married Mary Jo Hannah, and they shared 38 years together before her passing in 1996.

He retired from the US Postal Service as a rural route carrier after 40 years.

Don loved his time with family, spending vacations and holidays together. He was a loving husband and wonderful dad.

Don was preceded in death by both parents, his wife Mary Jo in 1996, sister Ione Surrett in 1999, and brother Ted Bird in 2024.

Loved ones left to cherish Don’s memory are his son Gary Bird and wife Laurie; son David Bird and wife Kelly; daughter Susan and husband Mark Jernigan; grandchildren Megan Williams and husband Wes, Preston Bird, Shelby Briscoe and husband Witt, Kelsey Bird, Katie Darvin and fiancé Jeff Bowman and Lindsie Belt and her husband Ricky; great-grandchildren, Skylynn Wood and Stevi Wood; and other extended family and friends.

Viewing for Don will be held at Ferguson Funeral Home on Friday, December 19th from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Interment will be in Ninnekah Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
