Charlotte Lynne Wilkins -Beaver was born January 28, 1970 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Jerry and Brenda Wilkins and joined big brothers Gerald and Scott.
Growing up in Chickasha, Charlotte was always involved – dance, music, school, civic groups, pageants; if it was going on in town, Charlotte likely had a hand in it. She performed on stage with Phase 4 and in drama and music productions both at Chickasha Public Schools and at USAO. She campaigned for FBLA offices for her brothers and herself. In 1989, Charlotte was thrilled to serve as Miss Chickasha as part of a Miss Oklahoma pageant journey that would see her continue on to attend Miss Oklahoma multiple times, receiving a Talent Award and making lifelong friendships among both the contestants and the community.
Charlotte left Chickasha for the big city and matriculated at Oklahoma City University in August 1988 studying Vocal Performance. Charlotte found a vibrant community at OCU, joining Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and becoming a little sis at the Kappa Sigma house where she would eventually meet John. Over her four years at OCU, Charlotte moved from Vocal Performance into Mass Communications and started to find ways to use her natural sales skills in her education and jobs. She was part of an early broadcast team for the NAIA Championship basketball team at OCU, providing color commentary on Cox.
After graduation in 1992, Charlotte and John were married in November and she continued to find new sales jobs to utilize her skills – beginning in salon products, dating services, and other areas, looking for the right thing. Her big break came in 1994 when she made the decision between going into car sales and copier sales. Copiers were the choice – and she was off and rolling as a fresh new Account Manager for IKON Office Systems. At IKON, Charlotte grew her business quickly, primarily in government and school segments, soon making friends of her customers and building long term relationships. On April 19, 1995, many of her state and federal customers were lost in the Murrah Building bombing – and her response was to work alongside all the visitors on site to help them with the investigation and recovery process and then to help the agencies rebuild across the city in the following years. Charlotte progressed in her career as Director of Sales, Regional Trainer, and VP of Sales before eventually leaving IKON to become Executive VP of Sales for Standley Systems back home in Chickasha where she remained for the rest of her time in the copier business.
Charlotte was a fierce competitor her entire life – some might say she battled it out in multiple arenas. As a pageant contestant, she fought hard to perfect her music, her interview, her look, and her presence. As a salesperson, she fought for her customers to have the best solutions while making the best possible deal for everyone involved. As a mother, she fought for her boys to have everything they could ever need – or want – and she doubled down to fight harder when Jack Beaver needed more than most. In 2016, when she was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer, she faced it down and fought back with all she had and moved right through to become a survivor. Throughout most of her adult life, Charlotte fought bravely against a litany of mental health challenges and used all her will and resources to find options to work through them.
Through it all, Charlotte’s greatest loves were her boys, Parker and Jack Beaver. Parker was the child who turned a perfectly made up hard charging sales executive in a business suit into a mother in starched pajamas (still perfectly made up.) He brought her into the realm of finger paints and sidewalk chalk – helping to bring out the artistic side of her that she continued to express for the rest of her life through her painting, sculpture, and rock and gem business. When Jack Beaver came along five years later, he brought a special new vibe to the family with all his needs and requirements, and Charlotte worked hard to help keep things going during his many trips back and forth to the hospital. Charlotte spent many long trips with Jack traveling for his treatments in Florida and Albuquerque, along with Brenda Horn who provided incredible support for them both over the years.
She passed on her love of music to her boys, often jamming in the car with them to Disney hits or later fostering their musicianship by providing multiple instruments and lessons for the boys. She went above and beyond to make their birthdays as special as possible, from setting up medieval crafting kits and suits of armor for a “Knights and Princesses” theme to decorating photo-realistic monkey cupcakes for an all-out bananas theme. Charlotte took great pride in making her boys feel celebrated, and she enjoyed many travels with them through the years - from Disney World to Disney Land, Busch Stadium to Heinz field. She even managed to pass on some sales expertise by running Once Upon a Rock shop with Parker for several years.
In the most recent years, Charlotte had continued her sales drive – moving on to sell Mary Kay products and to recently become an Oklahoma Realtor. The same drive that started out selling shampoo and copiers in the 90’s was moving houses until her very last days.
